Nominated for publication of guidelines for testing and diagnosis of Roma children prior to placing them into special education schools in Poland.

Since 2010, the team of multiple institutions and psychologists worked on Identifying main sources of factors that contribute to high percentage of Roma children in special schools. The team came to the conclusion that this situation is quite complicated and there is not a single answer to this question. In order to make the change happen they needed to work with all actors that play an important role in education of the Roma children.

The team of psychologists from the Jagiellonian University; namely, Krystian Barzykowski, Halina Grzymala-Moszczynska, Joanna Grzymala-Moszczynska, Magdalena Kosno and Daniel Dzida have been working on improving the situation of the Roma children since 2011 with a great help of the Center for Education Development. The milestones of these activities include undertaking the research project “Cognitive and linguistic functioning of Roma children attending Polish public and special schools – social contexts”. As a result, a report has been published and the mutual collaboration with Center for Education Development started.

Since then, the team participated in several conferences giving more than 20 lectures, talks, presentations while discussing the situation of Roma minority children in Poland. Center for Educational Development sent this publication to all pedagogical counseling centers all over the Poland as a diagnostic manual recommended by the Ministry of Education and the Center for Education Development. The book gained several honorable patronage and recommendations from Council of Europe, Ministry of National Education (Poland), Comity of Psychology, Polish Academy of Science, Polish Psychological Assocciations (Poland) and many others.

The publishing of this book was also followed by several lectures and talks about psychological diagnosis in the multicultural and multilingual context organized by the Center for Education Development. In addition, in 2013 Krystian Barzykowski and Joanna Grzymala-Moszczynska trained around 120 psychologists and teachers in psychological diagnosis in a multicultural and multilingual context.
